New Delhi, Dec 07: President A P J Abdul Kalam today said "a combination of science and religion can lead us to spirituality which is essential for world peace." "Both science and religion aim to establish the truth and they lead us to spirituality," he said, addressing thousands of people at a 'peace festival' organised here by the Brahma Kumaris.
Describing development as an important goal towards achieving spirituality and peace, Kalam called for creating employment for 2.6 crore people below poverty line to make India a developed country by 2020.
The President emphasised the need for righteousness as a tool to achieve the goals of development and spirituality and eventual peace.
"Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. Where there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. Where there is harmony in the home, there is order in the family. Where there is order in the family, there is peace in the mind," he said.
Former president R Venkatraman, Haryana Governor Babu Mahavir, Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami and former CBI director R Kaarthikeyan were also present on the occasion.
In his speech, Swami praised the Brahm Kumaris as a great organisation striving for peace across the world.
Bhahma Kumaris chief Dadi Prakashmani said all religions should come together to bring about world peace.
