with the Congress on government formation, PDP today mellowed
its hardline position on the much-vilified Special Task Force
of the police and made right noises to congress but made no
reference to the chief ministership.
PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who will meet Congress
president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi tomorrow, said he had a
"flexible" way of working and hoped that a coalition with
that party would fructify.
"The people of J&K have voted for opposition parties and given a fractured verdict in which a coalition government becomes inevitable. I want the wishes of the people to be respected as voice of people is the voice of god", Sayeed said addressing a rally at the Lal Chowk here. Displaying a copy of his party's manifesto, he said all the issues have been discussed with congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi and Manmohan Singh in Srinagar.
In what is seen as yet another climb down ahead of the Delhi meeting, Sayeed said that his party was against disbanding of STF, a wing of the state police for countering terrorism against which allegations had been leveled.

"We will try to weed out some people with vested interests within the STF and make it more responsive", he said.
