Ranchi, June 17: A special CBI court here yesterday directed the Bihar Director General of Police to arrest Lok Sabha member of Congress from Begusarai constituency Rajo Singh in connection with the fodder scam. The court, which had earlier rejected Singh's petitions for anticipatory bail in four cases, served the order in response to the investigating agency's plea for directions to the Bihar Police to arrest the Congress MP, CBI sources said today.
Prior to this, the court had directed the Superintendent of Police, CBI, to execute its non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Singh.
The Congress MP had been chargesheeted in connection with withdrawal of Rs 187 crore and 39 crore from Doranda (Ranchi) and Chaibasa (west Singhbhum) treasuries, respectively.
The charges against Singh pertains to the period when he was a legislator and his contentions against them on technical grounds like his counsel Janardhan Rai objecting to the sanction received from Bihar Assembly speaker to prosecute him though he was an MP, were rejected.
The Bihar Legislature Assembly Speaker had opined that since singh was an MP, Lok Sabha Speaker was the competent authority to grant sanction for his prosecution. But the Lok Sabha secretary general, after taking the opinion of the Attorney General of India, stated that since Singh was an MLA when the scam surfaced, the Bihar Assembly Speaker was the competent authority in this regard.
