International campaign to clean Mt Dhaulagiri of garbage
Kathmandu, Oct 01: An international campaign to clean one of the highest and most polluted peaks of Himalayas, Mt Dhaulagiri, of hundreds of tonnes of garbage would be launched today.

launched today.
Association Dhaulagiri, a French organisation, in
collaboration with Kathmandu Environmental Education Project
(KEEP) has decided to launch a month long cleaning campaign
at the base camp of Mt. Dhaulagiri, a Nepal Tourism Board
press release said.
The team will mobilise 42 people including 35 porters to bring back 1,000 kg of garbage from the base camp. The renewable garbage will be recycled.
Most of Nepal's Himalayan peaks, attracting thousands of tourists from around the world, are burdened with piling up of tonnes of garbage and trashes.
KEEP last year brought back 800 kg of garbage from the Himalayan region. Bureau Report
