Faulty electronic voting machines (EVM) delayed polling exercise in Amritsar and Majitha assembly constituencies on Wednesday morning. Official reports said EVM were found faulty in a polling booth in the Amritsar segment while four EVM developed technical snags in booths in Khajala, Chogawa, Wariam and Miana Pandher villages of the Majitha constituency. It took almost half-an-hour to rectify the snag.
Another report said polling in booth numbers-115, 120 and 428 commenced late as the polling supervisors in these booths reached late.
Polling in all the 16 constituencies of this border district was slow but peaceful, with security force personnel keeping a strict vigil to prevent any untoward incident. In the first hour, five percent polling was recorded in the district.
In neighbouring Gurdaspur district, the polling was slow but peaceful. In the first hour, 4.57 per cent polling of votes was recorded in the district. Bureau Report
