Mumbai, May 18: Morning peak hour services on the Western Railways were completely paralysed as slum dwellers along Malad-Goregaon rail tracks squatted on the tracks to protest against choking of drains following overnight rains. The WR chief public relations officer Shailendra Kumar said that the train services were affected since 0845 hrs and are yet to be fully restored. He said that the railway police and senior railway officials have rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators and clear the tracks. The agitated slum dwellers demanded that the choked-up drains be cleared immediately. Meanwhile, lakhs of commuters were put to severe inconvenience and were seen jumping out of the stranded trains to rush to the nearest bus stop. The buses of Brinhanmumbai electricity supply and transport undertaking (BSET) were overcrowded, adding to the travails of the commuters. Bureau Report
