New Delhi, Sept 25: An organisation of Brahmins today threatened that the community would boycott the coming assembly elections if the government failed to bring about reservation in government jobs for the economically weaker among the forward castes. "Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in his speech in Jaipur had assured that that he will bring in a legislation in Lok Sabha to provide reservation to the economically poor people belonging to forward caste. But the Lok Sabha session ended on August 22 without even considering the matter. We feel betrayed," Suresh Mishra, leader of the Rajasthan-based 'Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha' told reporters here. Claiming that even Congress President Sonia Gandhi had given similar assurances to the community, Mishra said, "We want the Prime Minister to call a special session of Lok Sabha and amend the constitution to provide reservation to US failing which the large Brahmin community will boycott the coming assembly elections and float a third front which would prove disastrous for both the BJP and the Congress." He also claimed that 65 lakh Brahmins will go on fast on September 27 to exert pressure on the government on the issue. Bureau Report
