Jabalpur, Oct 21: Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government, the Centre, secretary of public relations department and others, directing them to respond by tomorrow on a petition challenging use of images of President A P J Abdul Kalam in hoardings highlighting the achievements of the state government.
A Janata Dal activist from Balaghat, Kishore Samrite, had filed a PIL challenged the 'misuse of the hoardings' installed at various important public places like Vallabh Bhawan, main
secretariat at Bhopal, divisional commissioners and collector's offices, Jabalpur, depicting the photos of Kalam and publicising the achievements of the state government.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice K Rajaratnam and Justice Dipak Mishra issued the notices yesterday on the PIL filed by Samrite. "The depiction the photo of the president is objectionable and clearly violates the very spirit of the Indian Constitution," the PIL said.
Responding to the submissions of the counsel for petitioner, Shobha Menon, during the 'preliminary hearing', the court issued notices to the respondents to file their detailed replies by October 22, the next day of hearing. Bureau Report
