New Delhi, June 04: British and Australian High Commissions today curtailed their visa services following staff reduction in the wake of tension between India and Pakistan. A release from the high commission said the drop box facility did not require applicants to lodge applications in person.
The non-present application service is available to those who have travelled to the UK in the last ten years and have evidence of this travel and those who have travelled to the The visa offices of the two high commissions will, however, continue to accept applications only from visitors travelling on an emergency basis, their press releases said.
The Australian visa office in Mumbai is closed to the public from today until further notice. No new visa applications, by mail or in person, can be lodged there. Its visa office in Delhi will have limited operations only. The facility would be available to those aged over 65 years and are visiting a son or daughter in the UK, diplomats in the Indian Foreign Service or officers of the Indian Administrative Service, diplomats serving in a diplomatic mission in India and the spouse or children (under 18) of a person who meets one of the above criteria and are travelling with them.
Where possible the office will continue to accept applications of an emergency and or urgent nature but priority will be given to applicants with close family links to Australia, the release said.
The British High Commission said it will now accept visa applications only from visitors travelling on an emergency basis and those qualifying under the non-present (drop box) criteria and those intending to settle in the United Kingdom. The drop box facility does not require applicants to lodge applications in person.
