The Uttar Pradesh government Wednesday announced bonus equal to 30.4 days wage to its employees for the year 2000-2001. State Finance Minister Harish Chandra Srivastava told newspersons that over 12 lakh employees and teachers would get a bonus of Rs 2467, of which half would be deposited in their General Provident Fund (GPF) account and the rest would be paid in cash in two equal installments.
He said that the first installment would be paid before the Diwali festival and the second in December. The government would have to bear a financial burden of Rs 294 crore for the payment of this bonus.
The State Finance Minister is rushing to New Delhi on Thursday to request the Union Finance Ministry for raising the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) limit for wage and means of the state from the existing Rs 774 crores to Rs 1774.64 crores.
He also said that the state government would have to spend over Rs 1275 crores per year after the appointment of about 40,000 group ''C'' employees.
