Madrid, Sept 20: ''Practically every 'Madrileno' seems delighted that Beckham has chosen this city as his new home - his presence here can only add to the prestige and importance of our city.'' That was the verdict late yesterday of Madrid Radio Station Cadena Cope on England Football captain David Beckham. He has set the Spanish capital alight since joining Real from Manchester United.
The verdict came at the end of a special programme entitled ''The Impact of Beckham'', in which scores of listeners phoned in to give their opinion on the iconic midfielder.

Never before has a Spanish radio station prepared such a programme on an individual player. Not Raul Gonzalez, not Luis Figo, not Zinedine Zidane, not Ronaldo, not new idol Ronaldinho in Barcelona.
The majority of callers were Real Madrid fans, expressing their satisfaction at the excellent start that Beckham has made for the Spanish champions.
''Before he came to play here I thought he was just a playboy,'' said fan Ignacio Torres. ''But I have been surprised at how he works for the team, how he chases back and tackles.''
Not surprisingly, several female fans called in. A girl who would only identify herself as ''Isabel'' said that Beckham was the ''sexiest footballer in the world'', while Ana Maria Aranda praised the Englishman for ''taking the time to sign so many autographs and smile at the fans''. Bureau Report
