New Delhi, July 25: In the wake of recent stepped up suicide attacks on army camps and Pakistani forces indulging in border firing, the Army Chief Gen Nc Vij has undertaken a two-day extensive tour of forward and interior areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Vij, after visiting the Tanda Army Camp, the scene of recent attack by militants in which 8 army personnel, including a brigadier, were killed and 13 other officers and men, including the northern army commander and corps commander received injuries, held talks with the command brass in Udhampur.

Officials said the army chief, who returned here today, told top commanders to carry out extensive sanitising of all military establishment in the wake of militant attempts to launch suicide attacks. Vij also visited forward areas along the LoC to review the overall security situation.

He also visited the areas where army troops deployed to assist the state government for security of Amarnath Yatra. After visiting the forward areas and camps in Jammu and Kashmir Valley, the army chief also undertook a visit to forward areas in Drass and Kargil sectors, where addressing troops, he told them to be vigilant against both internal and external threats. The army chief was briefed at Leh by the Corps Commander of the 14 corps.
