Dehra Dun, Nov 17: President A P J Abdul Kalam will be the chief guest at the third convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee today.
At the function to be attended by Uttaranchal Governor Sudarshan Aggarwal and Chief Minister N D Tiwari, IIT Roorkee will confer upon Wipro chairman Azim H Premji the 'Honoris Causa' degree of Doctor of Engineering.
374 IIT students will also be awarded the Bachelor of Technology degree while 685 will receive the Master's degree and 50 their Ph D degrees in the convocation to be presided by Dr S K Joshi, chairman, Board of Governors.
The President will also inaugurate the 30th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for children at Dehra Dun. Later, he will go to Pantnagar in Kumaon as the chief guest at the convocation of the Govind Ballabh Pant University. Uttaranchal Governor and Chief Minister will also be at the convocation.
Strict security arrangements have been made for the President's visit. Senior Superintendent of Police R S Meena said that all routes entering the capital had been sealed and all vehicles were being searched before being allowed to enter Roorkee and Dehra Dun.



All markets on the route to be taken by the President will remian closed tomorrow, he said.
