Malkangiri, June 03: In yet another example of women matching capabilities of men in undertaking arduous tasks, lady commandos in Naxalite-infested Malkangiri district in Orissa would now join forces in maintaining internal security. The commandos, who passed out from the anti-extremist tactics (AET) training centre here to become the country's first women's commando unit, have been trained to combat left wing extremism, district superintendent of police and principal of AET S Dev Datta Singh said today.
Inspector General of Police N C Padhi awarded badges, trophies and certificates to the first batch of 21 commandos, six of them ladies, at a function here.
"We see it as a reflection of women empowerment. We have imparted quality training on contemporary anti-extremist tactics and now they are ready to take the challenge", Singh said. Bureau Report
