New Delhi, Oct 24: Polling hours in the ensuing assembly elections in Delhi would be reduced by one hour and casting of votes will begin from 8 am on December 1. According to the draft notification, the polling would be held from 8 am to 5 pm. The last assembly polls were held from 7 am to 5 pm.

The reason for the reduced time was use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all the assembly constituencies and nine hours polling was sufficient, EC sources said.

However, they said, though the polling would close at 5 pm, no voter in the queue would be turned back.
