A high level team of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) from New Delhi is expected to visit the Lalbandh mine on Saturday where a number of workers were believed to be trapped due to subsidence on October 10, ECL officials said. The team which will supervise and suggest rescue and recovery operations, is expected at noon today and is likely to camp in Burdwan till the operations were completed, sources said.
Meanwhile, the construction of a temporary road leading to one of the entrances of the ill-fated mine where knocks from inside were heard on Friday, received a boost with the deployment of an additional bulldozer by ECL.
After the road was completed, officials said, a 55 tonne pc 300 shovel excavation/loading machine would be put into operation to remove the earth over the 1.5 acre of subsidence.
The PC 300 is expected to arrive from Sonepur, about 60 km from Burdwan, by evening, officials said.
