St. John's (Antigua), July 17: Former test batsman Augustine "Gus" Logie was appointed senior team coach of the West Indies today after serving in a caretaker capacity for the recent test series' with Australia and Sri Lanka. Logie, who played 52 tests and 158 one day internationals, signed a two-year contract. The 42-year-old replaces his former West Indies team-mate Roger Harper, who is now head coach of the cricket academy of the St. George's University in Grenada. The decision to appoint Logie was approved at the WICB's directors' meeting last Saturday and Sunday in Roseau, Dominica.

"I am excited about being appointed coach of the senior West Indies team; it's another opportunity to serve West Indies cricket at another level," said Logie, who was an entertaining middle order batsman and fine fielder.

Logie declared he was looking to build on the encouraging two home series against Australia and Sri Lanka.
They rebounded in the final test against the Aussies having already lost the first three tests to post the highest winning total in test history and a 1-0 test series victory over Sri Lanka.

"We started something with this team in Guyana against the Australians which has worked for us and we will be looking to continue in this vein," he said.

Logie played his test match cricket between 1983 and 1991, scoring 2470 runs at an average of 35.79.
