Guwahati, Jun 07: VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia today expressed serious concern over large-scale infiltration from Bangladesh into Assam. In his characteristic aggressive style, Togadia even suggested that "India should invade Bangladesh and carve out a separate territory so that the illegal migrants to Assam get a place in their birthplace."

"The demography of Assam is changing. Ultimately, the state will be forced to become a part of greater Bangladesh and the fate of Hindu Assamese will be like that of Kashmiri Hindu Pandits," he told reporters.
Alleging that an estimated 50 lakh illegal Bangladeshis were in Assam with the Hindus reduced to minority in 10 of its 25 districts, Togadia said that he was surprised that the country had two immigration laws -- IMDT Act and foreigners act --when no country in the world had such dual provisions.

He said that the VHP would begin a fight against the "threat" to Hindus with a rally here tomorrow.

The illegal migrants (determination by tribunals) act applicable exclusively to Assam was "sympathetic to the immigrants and not to the state," Togadia said.
