Kathmandu, Nov 03: Unidentified armed robbers looted more than
Rs 50 million from a branch of Nepal's largest commercial bank
in the heart of the capital late last night, police said today.
Though the identities of the robbers were not known, it is thought
that the robbery could be the work of the Maoists who have been
looting banks in different parts of the country to finance their
eight-year-old ''peoples war''.
According to police, several masked men broke into the Bishalbazar branch of the Rastriya Banijya Bank in new road, the busiest part of the city late last evening and broke into six iron safes and made off with Rs 50 million. The police, who were located less than 20 metres away, were informed of the incident only at midnight.
Investigations into the robbery are continuing. Bureau Report
