Hyderabad, June 01: The toll in Andhra Pradesh, reeling under severe heatwave conditions for the last three weeks, has increased to 884 with 89 more deaths recorded during the last 24 hours.
State relief commissioner D Rosaiah said the worst-affected coastal districts are experiencing continuously shifting temperature between 45.5 to 47 degree Celsius and the situation would continue to remain the same for another two days.
Hyderabad, which today recorded temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius, highest of the current season, forced the people to remain indoors.
Added to this is acute drinking water scarcity in many areas of the old city as people remained thirsty with two major reservoirs draining up due to failure of monsoon for the past two years.
The temperature recorded in three major cities in the state is Tirupati 45.02, Vijayawada 45.5 and Visakhapatnam 38.8 degree Celsius.
