Washington, Oct 15: John Allen Muhammad, the prime accused in the sniper killings that terrorised the US capital a year ago, has pleaded not guilty of murder and conspiracy charges in the trial which began in Virginia Beach. In the trial yesterday, Allen Muhammad pleaded not guilty of murder, conspiracy and firearms charges in the Oct 09, 2002 shooting death of Dean Harold Meyers, 53, at a gas station near Manassas (Virginia).
In the three-week shooting spree in October 2002, Allen Muhammad and companion Lee Boyd Malvo (18) allegedly killed 10 people, including an Indian American, and injured three in the Greater Washington area. The pair is also accused of nine other shootings, five of them fatal, across the country between February and September last year.
Malvo is scheduled to go on trial on November 10. His attorneys have said they intend to offer an insanity plea, arguing that he was under the influence of Allen Muhammad.
