Bhopal, Dec 07: Ruling out early Lok Sabha polls
after BJP's spectacular victory in the December one assembly
elections in the Hindi heartland, Union Law Minister Arun Jaitley today said parliamentary elections would be held as
per schedule.
"Lok Sabha elections would be held as per schedule. There is no possibility of advancing them," he told reporters here, adding that overwhelming support for BJP could be witnessed during the recent assembly polls.
He said election results are not governed by any particular incident but by voters themselves and in Madhya Pradesh the people had decided to give their verdict against the misrule of the Congress government for the last 10 years.
Jaitley said BJP had worked out its agenda for assembly elections in the four states six months ago "while there was no agenda with the Congress, which was merely reacting to our statements in the run up to the polls."
Neither Congress nor BJP fought elections on the basis of caste equations in Madhya Pradesh, he said, adding the polls was contested on the issue of development and parties would have to provide good governance and progress to get votes in all future elections.
Asked about failure of non-Congress governments in the state in lasting five year terms in the past, Jaitley, alleged that Congress regimes at the Centre had earlier misused Article 356 to dislodge state governments.
But this time BJP government would complete its tenure as misuse of this provision has stopped under Vajpayee government, he said.
