Ajmer, May 31: A Chhota Rajan gang member, arrested here early this week, was handed over to the Maharashtra Police today, who were on lookout for him on alleged charges of extortion, official sources said here. Akhtar (32) was handed over to Maharashtra Police on the basis of a permanent warrant issued against him by a Mumbai court on alleged charges of demanding extortion money of Rs five lakh from the proprietors of a tea company in 1999, sources said.
The accused had been living here for the past one year along with his wife and two children before his arrest by the local police on May 25, police said. Although additional district magistrate (city) ordered the release of Akhtar on a bail bond of Rs 50,000 on Tuesday but he failed to furnish the same and was sent to judicial custody.
A team of Maharashtra Police yesterday took permission of the magistrate to take the accused to Mumbai from the Central Jail where he had been lodged. About a dozen cases of extortion, loot and theft were registered against him in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, police said. Bureau Report
