Golden four way ring road to be ready by 2004 end

Nagercoil, Oct 20: Union Minister of State for Surface Transport Pon Radhakrishnan today said the golden four way ring road interlinking New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Chennai would be ready by the end of 2004.
The inaugural function for laying of 13,000 kms of road linking Kanyakumari to Kashmir, would be held soon, he said at a function to inaugurate upgradation of Nagercoil-Parvathipuram road here, being laid at a cost of Rs 1.49 crore.
He said the government proposed to build a road to connect east and west of the country, at an estimated cost Rs 60,000 crore. There was also a proposal to build a four-way ring road from Chennai to Nagercoil and between Tindivanam and Madurai. The roads for these projects would be of international standards, he said.
In a bid to ease the traffic congestion, new bridges would be built across Thamirabarani and Pazhayar rivers at a cost of Rs 23 crore.
