J-K govt to reward officials for detecting tax evasion cases
Jammu, Aug 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government would soon announce a scheme to reward officials exhibiting exemplary dedication in discharge of their official duties while detecting tax evasion cases through extra surveillance and intelligence networks.

Making an announcement to this effect, J&K Finance Minister M H Baig said the police authorities extending assistance to the officials of the concerned departments would also be suitably rewarded.
Baig, during a visit to sales tax and excise check posts at Lakhanpur in Kathua yesterday, called for better coordination between the district administration and the post authorities to keep tax evaders at bay. While further legislative measures to tighten the noose around tax evaders would be considered, the administrative structure will also have to be streamlined for good returns, he said.
The finance minister stressed on the need to create a tax payer friendly atmosphere where compliance comes forth by way of cooperation rather than coercion. The redressal of grievances too should be prompt and effective, Baig said.
A sales tax complex at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crores would be constructed at Lakhanpur, he said, adding the complex would address problem of traffic congestion on the highway, provide automate services for clearance of trade goods, create infrastructure of tourist attraction, develop parking facilities for 400 vehicles at a time, apart from a a trauma hospital.
