Eleven hard-core criminals escaped from Bihar's Jamui sub-jail on Monday night after triggering a series of blasts that wounded two prison employees. Minister of state for revenue and land reforms Prayag Choudhry on Tuesday said two prison officials were arrested for allegedly conniving with the escapees.

After visiting the jail, Choudhry told newspersons that warden Kulanand Jha and Moti Mishra were taken to custody.

He said the incident occurred following a 'deep rooted conspiracy' between the prisoners and the jail employees. The minister asked the district magistrate and the Police Superintendent to institute an FIR against the ''guilty'' employees and initiate action against them.

He said Jha was injured in the blast and undergoing treatment at the local government hospital in the police custody. Choudhry was accompanied by district magistrate (in-charge) and deputy development commissioner Ganashi Ram Raman, police superintendent Vashiruddin Ahmad and deputy police superintendent Anandi Das for inspection.

Eleven undertrials -- Teka Manjhi, Thano Ravidas, Momin Mian, Salim alias Chandra Mian, Jago Ravidas, Harishchandra Manjhi, Usuf Mian, Kilash Turi, Shiv Prasad Das, Soni Khan and Sitaram Sah --escaped from the jail around 8 pm after the routine counting.

All police stations of the Jamui district had been put on alert and massive manhunt was launched to nab the criminals, who were charged with offences like rape, dacoity and loot of police rifles.
