Lucknow, Apr 11: In a setback to the Congress, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has declined to interfere with Uttar Pradesh government's decision to build an Ambedkar museum on the land earlier allotted for the construction of the Indira Gandhi Pratisthan (IGP). A division bench comprising Justice Jagadish Bhalla and Justice G K Gupta passed the order yesterday on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the government's decision to shift the IGP to an alternative site.

The court, however, directed the government to reallocate 25 acres of land for the construction of IGP. The bench said in its order that the area of the IGP could be decreased if 25 acres of land was not available but directed the officials to keep in mind the original lay out and design of the `pratisthan' (institution).

The petitioner had sought allotment of the same land for construction of IGP. The state government had, recently, cancelled the land allotted to the IGP and shifted it to an alternative site. The original land was taken over for setting up A B R Ambedkar Memorial Museum.
The foundation stone for the IGP was laid in 1989 and work on the project had also started.

The Congress had raised a hue and cry over cancellation of allotment and had even organised a series of agitational programmes to register its protest. Bureau Report
