New Delhi, Apr 23: The Indian Army is facing a "huge shortage" of nearly 2,50,000 bullet proof jackets required for its troops in the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and for counter-insurgency operations despite the procurement action being initiated nearly 15 years back.
This has been revealed by the Standing Committee on Defence in its report submitted to Parliament. Voicing its deep concern over this development, the Committee said it was "disturbed" to note that such a "major shortfall" still remained notwithstanding the fact that procurement action was initiated as far back as 1988-89 reflecting very adversely on the procurement process.
