Gros Islet (St Lucia), June 24: The opening test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka headed for a draw as not a ball was bowled on the fourth day due to damp outfield at the Beausejour stadium here. The West Indies were 272-4 in their first innings in reply to Sri Lanka's 354 when heavy rain stopped play in the post-lunch session on Sunday.
Skipper Brian Lara was batting on 93, seven short of his 21st test century and the third in the last five matches.
Marlon Samuels was the other not-out batsman on five.
Umpires Daryl Harper and Billy Bowden made a series of inspections before calling off play.
The second and final test will start in Jamaica on Friday.
