New Delhi, Sept 19: Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers Association (CETMA) on Friday asked the government to ensure a quick roll-out of Conditional Access System (CAS) since it would enable the viewers to pay less for their monthly cable bill. It appealed to the state as well as Central governments to lessen the burden on consumers by waiving service and entertainment taxes for those who opt only for basic tier at Rs 72 per month.

"CAS implementation would put India on the world map of digital television, what may probably be the largest digital roll-out in the world," secretary general Suresh Khanna said in a statement here.
In Chennai, the only city to implement CAS so far, the masses are getting to watch their favourite channels mostly for Rs 72, since many pay channels have turned free to air.
"In the end, consumers get what they want at a reasonable rate. It is a transparent system, where all the stakeholders ie broadcasters, MSOs and cable operators get their fair share," it said. Bureau Report
