Kolkata, Sept 20: BSNL on Friday said the launch of its prestigious broadband ADSL service under Calcutta Telephones, scheduled for this month, was being delayed due to non-availability of equipment. The service will provide internet, Video on Demand (VoD), Audio on Demand (AoD) and Cable TV Channels over telephone connection,
"Roll out of ADSL is delayed because of delayed arrival of equipments," Calcutta Telephones' General Manager (Planning) Somnath Maity said while addressing members of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI).
Calcutta Telephones was, however, gearing to introduce SMS on landline from the fourth week of October and will also introduce BSNL's merged cellular mobile services (Cell One) in Kolkata from next month, he said.
Maity said their 3rd Generation Wireless service would also be launched soon. "First trial of 3G in Kolkata has already commenced on Tuesday last and commercial deployment will take place after completion of trial."
