A criminal case against noted actor and Rajya Sabha member Dilip Kumar and three others for alleged land grabbing, was adjourned till June 25 by Chief Judicial Magistrate S V Deshpande in a city court on Thursday.
Dilip Kumar, however, did not appear in the court since summons issued on him could not be served in Mumbai as the actor was out of the city. Co-accused Ahsan Khan, who is the actor's brother, Talathi Sukhdev Tajanpure and circle officer Ratnakar Shirsath were present in the court, according to Advocate M Y Kale, counsel for the accused.
The summons were issued to the accused in response to a complaint that the actor had allegedly grabbed 19 acres of land belonging to a freedom fighter late Shivram Khanderao Borate at Dudgaon Village near Trimbakeshwar for just Rs 3000. According to advocate Dharmendra Chavan, lawyer of the complainant Meerabai, widow of Borate, the thespian made provisional agreement in 1964 for the land and had paid Borate Rs 3,000 but failed to fulfil the final agreement.
In 1975, in response to Borate's application, a court cancelled the provisional agreement, said, adding that on the actor's appeal in 1987, however, the session court gave verdict in his favour.
After Borate's death, Meerabai appealed against the sessions court ruling in Mumbai High Court in 1996, which stayed the verdict, he said. However, Meerabai has alleged that Dilip Kumar had approached Talathi Sukdev Tajanpure and circle officer Ratnakar Shirsat and got the property registered in his name and transferred the land to his brother Ahsan Khan through power of attorney.
