New Delhi, Apr 13: Super Bazaar - a landmark in the heart of the capital - and the plush Sagar Apartments are among nine "highly unsafe buildings" whose fate would be literally sealed if they fail to comply with the safety norms issued by the Delhi Fire Service. These buildings, out of the 68 unsafe high-rise buildings in the metropolis, were listed as most unsafe as they failed to conform to the 12-point safety norms issued by the department, the city's chief fire officer R C Sharma told reporters here today.
These buildings do not fulfil even three of the required 12 fire safety norms, he said, adding while initially there were 12 structures, three of them later fulfilled the safety guidelines.
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) had issued seal notices to "highly unsafe" buildings following which the owners moved court, he said, adding the 45-day grace period given by the court to meet the safety norms expires tomorrow.
"We will review the situation and take appropriate action," Sharma said.
Deepak Building, Siddhartha House, Shakuntala Apartment, Guru Angad Bhawan, Sanchi Building and CCI House in Nehru Place area and Deep Shikha in Rajendra Place were the other "highly unsafe" buildings that were issued seal notices, he said.
Fire incidents in high-rise buildings showed a marginal decline, he said, adding 58 distress calls from such buildings were attended to last year compared to 64 in the corresponding period the previous year. Bureau Report
