Mumbai, Nov 20: No concrete evidence has emerged yet to throw light on the cause of mid-air collision of two Russian maritime reconnaissance aircraft of Indian Navy near Dabolim in Goa which killed 15 persons including 12 airmen, Western Naval Command Chief Vice Admiral Vinod Pasricha said today. It was definite that the two il-38 aircraft collided but the cause is yet to be ascertained, Admiral told reporters on board INS Mumbai.

It could be pilot error or even mechanised error, he said adding it was a most unfortunate accident where we lost 12 expert fliers.

He said one of the flight data recorders could not be recovered while the other was being analysed. Adequate steps are being taken to ensure that there is no recurrence of such accidents, he remarked.

In worst-ever accident involving military planes, two Russian made maritime reconnaissance aircraft collided mid-air during an air show on October 1 killing 15 persons-- 12 crew on board and three on the ground hit by debris--near Dabolim Naval Airbase, near Panaji.

A board of inquiry was ordered into the incident.
