Colombo, Aug 11: The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 11 Indian fishermen for entering the island`s northern territorial waters, police said here today.
Colombo, Aug 11: The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 11 Indian fishermen for entering the island's northern territorial waters, police said here today.
They said the 11 men found in two boats were handed over to local police at Kankesanthurai in Jaffna peninsula, following the arrests made yesterday.
Investigations were pending and Indian diplomatic staff were being informed of the arrests, police said. Poaching by fishermen from the two countries in each others' territorial waters is common along the narrow strip of sea dividing India and Sri Lanka.
