Kolkata, Aug 25: Panic gripped the passengers of Howrah-bound DN Patna Shatabdi Express after smoke was seen coming out of two ac compartments of the train near the Gurap station of Eastern Railway's Howrah-Bardhaman chord line section, about 57 km from Howrah, this afternoon. Eastern Railway sources here said smoke emanated from two ac chair cars, the fourth and fifth from the rear of the train, at around 12:15 pm forcing the authorities to stop it at the Gurap station.
To a pointed question whether the bogies had caught fire, the sources said the exact cause was unknown and the emission of smoke could also be caused by the heated axle of the train or some technical problem.
Passengers of the two affected bogies were detrained and accommodated in other compartments.
The sources said all passengers were safe.
The train left for Howrah after the two affected bogies were detached. Bureau Report
