Dhaka, Sept 28: Initiatives should be taken to reinvigorate the South Asian Association Cooperation (Saarc) for making it an effective forum for promoting regional security. The observation came at a discussion on "South Asian security: Bangladesh perspective" organised by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) here.
The significant role of India in ensuring a security threat free atmosphere in this "India centered" region was underlined in the discussion held on Friday.
Senior research fellow of BIISS Dr.Abul Kalam made a brief presentation on the Bangladesh perspective of South Asian security.
Kalam pointed out several reasons, which created threat to security of the region including cultural commonality that worked as negative factor amid apprehension of cultural aggression, chronic political instability, inability to cope with unrest, trends in global politics and economy and media blitz.
He said Bangladesh should fight back baseless media information disseminated to create confusion and instability in the region. Bureau Report
