Chennai, Nov 06: A city court has issued summons to CPM's Tamil Nadu unit secretary N Varadarajan and state Congress committee working president E V K S Elangovan asking them to appear before it later this month in connection with chargesheets filed against them under Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act. Varadarajan has been asked to appear on November 24 and Elangovan on November 25.

The police had submitted chargesheets against them under the special legislation for allegedly instigating government employees and teachers to strike work in July this year with an aim to paralyse government machinery and administration.

Copies of the chargesheets will be given to them on their appearance in the court of the additional city metropolitan magistrate, Egmore, D Durai Raj.

The police had also submitted chargesheets for the same offence against DMK president M Karunanidhi and CPI state secretary R Nallakannu, which are likely to be re-submitted soon with necessary clarifications sought by the magistrate.
In the case of chargesheets against Varadarajan and Elangovan, the necessary changes were made after which the summons were issued.

The filing of the chargesheets follows a case against the four in August this year on a complaint by the state public secretary.
