Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 06: Fifteen BJP activists were arrested and 12 taken into preventive custody in connection with incidents of violence on August 5, in which one CPI(M) worker was stabbed at Punnapara in Alapuzha district, Finance and Excise Minister K Sankaranarayanan told the state assembly today. Replying to an adjournment motion notice on behalf of Chief Minister A K Antony, he said the government had taken firm action following the incident. Intervening in the matter, opposition leader v s Achuthanandan said the opposition parties did not share this view and demanded that more stringent action be taken against the culprits. After the minister's reply, Speaker Vakkom Purushottaman disallowed a notice for an adjournment motion, moved by T K Devakumar (CPI-M), stating that the BJP was 'unleashing terror' in the area and demanding that the house be adjourned to discuss the 'serious situation.'
