were arrested and 12 taken into preventive custody in
connection with incidents of violence on August 5, in which
one CPI(M) worker was stabbed at Punnapara in Alapuzha
district, Finance and Excise Minister K Sankaranarayanan told
the state assembly today.
Replying to an adjournment motion notice on behalf of
Chief Minister A K Antony, he said the government had taken
firm action following the incident.
Intervening in the matter, opposition leader v s

view and demanded that more stringent action be taken against
the culprits.
After the minister's reply, Speaker Vakkom Purushottaman
disallowed a notice for an adjournment motion, moved by T K

terror' in the area and demanding that the house be adjourned
to discuss the 'serious situation.'
