Tokyo, Oct 24: Japan will extend a total of five billion dollars in aid for 2004-2007 to help with the reconstruction of Iraq, the Japanese foreign ministry said today. The Japanese government has already said it would extend 1.5 billion dollars in grants for 2004.

The fresh commitment of up to 3.5 billion dollars, mostly in low-interest official loans, will also be announced at an international conference under way in Madrid on donations to Iraq, the ministry said in a statement.
