Pakistan on Friday extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to visit Islamabad. The invitation from President Pervez Musharraf was handed over by Pakistan High Commissioner Ashraf Jehangir Qazi to foreign secretary Chokila Iyer this afternoon, official sources said. The sources said an invitation to external affairs minister Jaswant Singh by his Pakistani counterpart Abdul Sattar to visit Islamabad was delivered a few days ago. However, dates for the visits of both the leaders are yet to be finalised.
Pakistan President Pervez Mushrraf, during the Agra summit, had orally invited Vajpayee to visit Islamabad which the prime minister accepted. Bureau Report
