A team of crime branch CID had left for Maharajganj, the native district of Tripathi, which was frequented by Madhumita, police sources said.
Tripathi, who was recently removed by chief minister Mayawati, had admitted that Madhumita had visited Maharganj and Gorakhpur in connection with some 'kavi sammelans'.
Police has so far not quizzed Tripathi.
The sleuths are also looking for a person who, according to the domestic help of the poetess, had met her before she was murdered.
The foetus of the poetess, who was six-month pregnant, had not yet been sent for DNA testing. Bureau Report
