Bangalore, Nov 09: The quartet of captain Sourav
Ganguly, coach John Wright, physio Andrew Leipus and former
trainer Adrian le Roux was today named winner of the Castrol
special award for cricketing excellence.
The award for ‘Men who made the Difference’, which was
announced by Castrol's brand ambassador Rahul Dravid at a
press conference here, would be given away at a function
tomorrow.
According to Managing Director of Castrol India Naveen Kshatriya, it was Dravid who initiated the thought that the special award be given to this quartet.
Referring to the foursome, Dravid said there is a lot of hard work and effort that goes on behind the scenes to create a team culture, work ethic and an atmosphere for the team to perform well on the field consistently.
The impact of hard work of the foursome was reflected in the performances of the side particularly against Australia in 2001, the Natwest Triangular series in 2002 and the World Cup earlier this year.
Sunil Gavaskar and Ambati Rayudu have bagged the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award and Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year Award respectively.
Castrol said the award for Indian Cricketer of the Year would be announced tomorrow night at the ceremony. The race for this award, the company said, is hotting up between Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan.
