Washington, Oct 02: A recent report presented to the US Congress has claimed that India had emerged as a major player in the purchase and selling of arms among developing nations. The "conventional arms transfers to developing nations", prepared annually by the congressional research service said "India bought and sold arms worth eight billion dollars during 1999-2002".
China and the United Arab Emirates were the top two, purchasing arms worth 11.3 and nine billion dollars respectively over the last four years, the report said.
The "conventional arms transfers to developing nations" is an annual report providing unclassified data on conventional arms transfers to developing nations by the U.S. and foreign countries for the preceding eight years.
