Chandigarh, Dec 09: A local court today posted the matter in the defamation civil suit filed by former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal against his successor Amarinder Singh seeking damages of Rs five crore, to February 10. Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) C L Mohal put the next date of hearing on February 10 after discharge of witnesses. Four witnesses from various government departments, including Punjab Vigilance Bureau and State Electricity Board, appeared before the court after being summoned by it for the cross-examination of Badal on the request of counsel of Amarinder Singh. Badal's counsel maintained that Badal could not appear before the court here as he was in judicial custody at a jail in Patiala.
Seeking Rs five crore as damages, Badal has alleged that Amarinder Singh had defamed his family through letters and advertisements ahead of state assembly elections claiming that Badals owned assets worth Rs 3,500 crore, including those in Australia, the us and Switzerland. Bureau Report
