New Delhi, Apr 17: With the focus now shifting to reconstruction of the war-ravaged Iraq, India has decided to appoint a Charge d' Affaires in Baghdad to monitor the ground situation and provide much-needed humanitarian aid. India's ambassador to Iraq B B Tyagi, who has been camping in Jordan because of the U S-led attack, is expected to come back to New Delhi for consultations, informed sources said today.
Among the names being considered for the post of Charge d' Affaires is M C Pandey, a first secretary in the Indian mission in Iraq, the sources said.
India, which has had traditionally close ties with Iraq, is keen to play a key role in giving humanitarian assistance and in the re-building exercise.
