Over 50,000 people affected by floods in Orissa
Bhawanipatna (Orissa), Aug 27: Over 50,000 people have been affected by floods in three blocks of Kalahandi district with the Hati River in spate following heavy rains since the last two days, official sources said.

The blocks affected were Jaipatna, Junagarh and Kalampur.
The flood waters have inundated Kapurmal, Rajaguda, Kanakpur, Benger, Podaguda and Hirapur villages and the inhabitants of some of the villages were shifted to safer places by the local administration.
They were being provided with relief, the sources said.
Temra, Poruaguda and Balichhada villages under Kalampur block have also been affected.
Officials said that as much as 340 mm of rainfall was recorded at Jaipatna during the last 24 hours.
Besides, large tracts of paddy fields have been submerged following a breach in the right canal of the Indravati major irrigation project near Pondigaon.
