Aizawl, Mar 28: Mizoram has border dispute with neighbouring Assam and no ground demarcation has been undertaken, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga told the state assembly today. In a written reply to Vanlalhlana of Mizoram People's Conference, Zoramthanga said the state government did not accept the Mizoram-Assam state boundary as demarcated by the North Eastern Areas Re-organisation Act, 1971. Chief ministers of both the states were to hold talks on the boundary issue, but no dialogue has been held till date, he said. Border dispute between Assam and Mizoram flared up in the early 1990s when state police from both sides barely evaded armed confrontation and the Union home ministry had to intervene to prevent violence. While the Assam government contended that the interstate boundary between the two states should be as demarcated by the North Eastern Areas Re-Organisation Act, 1971, the Mizoram government refused to accept it as the people of the state were not consulted when the act was passed.
