Kolkata, June 07: Security has been tightened in Nabadwip (SC) Lok Sabha and Vidyasagar assembly constituencies in West Bengal, where by-polls will be held tomorrow amidst charges and counter-charges of contesting parties of flouting model code of conduct. Sixty per cent of the total 1,647 seats in Nabadwip (SC) Lok Sabha seat has been declared sensitive, with 8,000 state armed police deployed there, while more than 8,000 Kolkata armed police and rapid action force have been put on duty to maintain peace in the city's Vidyasagar seat, officials said.

Sixteen candidates are in the fray for the two seats, where more than 16,000 security personnel have been deployed.

By-elections in Nabadwip (SC) Lok Sabha seat has been neccessiated due to the death of Ananda Mohan Biswas of Trinamool Congress, while Lakshmi De's death has caused the bypoll in Vidyasagar assembly constituency. De, a prominent CPI(M) leader, was the chief whip of the Left Front.

While Trinamool Congress has fielded Biswas' son Abir Biswas in Nabadwip parliamentary seat, CPI(M) has put up Anadi Sahu to retain their seats.

Altogether 99,342 voters are there in Vidyasagar seat, while 13,57,861 in Nabadwip constituency.

While Trinamool Congress alleged that CPI(M) was out to rig polls in Nabadwip (SC) seat and was making move to influence the administration, the Marxists urged the Election Commission to take steps against the TC chief Mamata Banerjee, camping in the constituency ''with anti-socials and criminals''.
