Kottayam, June 12: Amidst conflicting claims by rival factions, the revenue divisional officer today took over and sealed the state committee office of the Kerala Congress(J), which recently split. The P J Joseph faction had seized control of the office this morning from the rival P C George Group, which had been occupying the premises since the party split a fortnight back.
The RDO took over on advice from police that the situation might lead to law and order problems, police sources said.
Leaders of the Joseph faction, including MPs Francis George and Vakkachan Mattathil protested the takeover of the building by authorities.
Meanwhile, P C George said that he would take legal steps to get back the office.
Kerala Congress, a partner in the opposition LDF, split recently following sharp differences between former minister P J Jospeh and P C George, MLA.
